Fans of Atlus’ cult Persona series will be pleased to hear that the new edition of its fighting-game spinoff, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will hit US shores this fall. Persona 4 Arena was first released in 2012 to rather positive response, and based on the reception to the sequel following its release in Japanese arcades last November, Ultimax will not disappoint.

Atlus will be releasing four Persona games in the 2014-15 financial year, including a new mainline entry in the series for the Playstation 3 and a rhythm game for the Playstation Vita. Additionally, a game that attempts to mesh elements from the Persona series with some of the characteristics of the Etrian Odyssey series of dungeon crawlers will be released for the Nintendo 3DS. Entitled Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, a question and answer session about this game was recently published on Japanese gaming site Dengeki, then translated into English by Siliconera, and can be read in full here.

As you can see from the slate of releases set for the next couple of years, the high-school setting of the Persona series seems to be proving very robust in terms of the varied genres it can take on. With the immense success of Persona 4 Arena, it’s of little surprise that Atlus are attempting to take full advantage of the series’ growing popularity.

Sadly, one thing that Ultimax will be missing in its Western release is its rather excellent subtitle: ‘The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold’. That slight disappointment aside, the game looks set to be heavily featured at E3 next month ahead of its release later in the year.
